Matt Eberflus has been fired as head coach of the Chicago Bears after only two seasons in charge. The move comes after the Bears finished the season with a dismal 3-14 record, marking their worst performance since 1969.

Sources close to the organization indicate that Eberflus was let go due to his team's lack of progress on the field. The Bears ranked near the bottom of the NFL in several key statistical categories this season, including points scored, yards gained, and passing yardage. The team's defense, which Eberflus was hired to improve, was also statistically among the worst in the league.

Thomas Brown, the Bears' assistant head coach and tight ends coach, will take over as interim head coach for the remainder of the season. Brown has been with the Bears organization since 2015, and has previous head coaching experience at the college level.

Bears General Manager Ryan Poles issued a statement thanking Eberflus for his efforts and wishing him well in the future.

"We appreciate Matt's contributions to the Bears organization," Poles said. "He is a great man and I wish him all the best."

With Eberflus gone, the Bears now have a major decision to make at the head coaching position. It is unclear who will be the next permanent head coach, but Brown has a chance to prove himself worthy during the remaining five games of the season.

The Bears will hope to avoid finishing the season with the worst record in the NFL, and will begin their search for a new head coach as soon as possible.
