CU Football has made a statement in the first week of the season, upsetting the No. 17 TCU Horned Frogs 38-13 at Folsom Field. Head Coach Deion "Coach Prime" Sanders' debut was a resounding success, as the Buffs dominated the game from start to finish.
The Buffalo offense, led by quarterback J.T. Shrout, was firing on all cylinders. Shrout threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns, including a 72-yard bomb to wide receiver Daniel Arias. The running game also contributed, with Deion Smith rushing for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
The CU defense was equally impressive, holding TCU to just 267 yards of total offense. Linebacker Jaylon Jackson led the way with 12 tackles, while cornerback Travis Daniels had two interceptions. The defense also forced three TCU turnovers, including two fumbles.
The victory is a testament to Coach Prime's leadership and the transformative impact he has had on the CU program. In his first season, Sanders has instilled a new level of confidence and discipline into the team.
"Our guys played with heart and determination," said Sanders after the game. "We believed in ourselves, and we showed the world what we're capable of."
The upset has garnered national recognition for the CU Buffs. ESPN's "College GameDay" crew praised the team's performance and predicted that the Buffs could be a dark horse contender in the Pac-12 this season.
The Buffs will look to build on their momentum when they travel to face Northern Colorado next week. The team's ultimate goal is to win the Pac-12 Championship and make a statement on the national stage.
"This is just the beginning," said Sanders. "We have a lot of hard work ahead of us, but I believe in this team and I know we can accomplish anything we set our minds to."
