The Utah Jazz are reportedly considering a trade that would send center Walker Kessler and another player to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for guard Jordan Clarkson, reuniting the former teammates in Ohio. The potential move has sparked speculation about the future of both teams.
Sources close to the Jazz have indicated that the team is exploring the possibility of sending Kessler, a promising young center, along with another player (likely a wing or guard) to the Cavaliers for Clarkson. Clarkson, a high-scoring guard, spent three seasons with the Jazz before being traded to Cleveland in 2022.
For the Jazz, the trade would bring back a familiar face in Clarkson, who averaged 16.3 points per game in three seasons in Utah. His scoring ability and veteran leadership could be valuable assets to a young Jazz team looking to make a playoff push.
For the Cavaliers, acquiring Kessler would fill a need at the center position. The 21-year-old has shown promise in his rookie season, averaging 4.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
"We're always exploring opportunities to improve our team," said Jazz coach Will Hardy. "Jordan is a talented player who we know well. We'll evaluate all our options and make a decision that we believe is best for the long-term success of the franchise."
Clarkson was traded from the Jazz to the Cavaliers in September 2022 as part of the Donovan Mitchell deal. He played a key role for the Cavaliers in their Eastern Conference semifinal run last season, averaging 19.6 points per game in the playoffs.
The potential trade is still in its early stages, and it remains to be seen whether the Jazz and Cavaliers can agree on a deal. If it does materialize, it could have significant implications for both teams' playoff aspirations this season.
