MSU Basketball Wins Exhibition Game Over Ferris State: 3 Quick Takes
Michigan State University's basketball team had a successful start to their 2023-2024 season, with an 87-57 victory over Ferris State University in an exhibition game at the Breslin Center on Thursday night.
Impressive Debut for Freshmen
The game marked the first appearance for the Spartans' highly-touted freshman class, and they made a strong impression. Forward Jaxon Kohler led all scorers with 18 points, while guard Jeremy Fears added 15 points and forward Carson Cooper contributed 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Balanced Scoring Attack
One of the most notable aspects of the victory was the balanced scoring attack for MSU. Ten different Spartans players scored, with seven of them scoring at least 7 points. This distribution of scoring will be crucial for the team's success during the regular season.
Defense and Rebounding
The Spartans also showed promising signs on the defensive end, holding Ferris State to just 57 points. MSU's defense forced 13 turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 36.4% shooting from the field. Additionally, the Spartans outrebounded Ferris State 44-29, which provided them with second-chance scoring opportunities.
While it's important to note that this was just an exhibition game, the Spartans' performance provides encouraging signs for the upcoming season. They will open their regular season on November 7th against Northern Arizona.
