McNeeley suffered the injury during practice on Monday. Hurley said the injury is not considered serious, but the team is taking a cautious approach with his recovery.
"Liam is a tough kid and he's working hard to get back on the court as soon as possible," Hurley said. "But we're not going to rush him back and risk further injury."
McNeeley has been a key contributor for the Huskies this season, averaging 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. He has started 12 of the team's 16 games.
His absence will create a void in the backcourt, as he is a reliable three-point shooter and a good defender.
Hurley said he is considering several options to replace McNeeley in the starting lineup.
Hurley said there is no definitive timetable for McNeeley's return. He is expected to miss at least the next two games, and his status will be re-evaluated after that.
McNeeley's injury is a setback for UConn, but the Huskies have shown they can win without him. They are 3-1 this season when McNeeley does not play.
UConn will need to find a way to replace his production, but they are confident they can do so and continue their winning ways.
