The Broncos' defense played a pivotal role in the triumph, holding Wyoming to just 251 total yards of offense. Defensive end Tyler Sorrells recorded three sacks, while linebacker Ezekiel Turner intercepted two passes.
"Our defense was incredible tonight," said Boise State head coach Andy Avalos. "They kept Wyoming in check all game and gave us the opportunity to win."
Although the offense struggled at times, it made the big plays when it mattered. Quarterback Taylen Green connected with wide receiver Stefan Cobbs for a 40-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter. Running back George Holani added a 1-yard rushing touchdown late in the game to seal the victory.
"We didn't always have it easy on offense, but we found a way to score when we needed to," said Green. "It's a great feeling to be heading to the championship game."
This will be Boise State's 20th appearance in a conference championship game, the most of any school in the Mountain West. The Broncos have won 11 of their previous 19 championship appearances.
The Broncos will face the Utah State Aggies in the Mountain West Championship Game on December 4th. Utah State clinched the West Division title with a 10-2 record.
"Utah State is a tough opponent, but we're confident in our ability to win," said Avalos. "We're going to enjoy this victory for now, but we'll be laser-focused on preparing for the championship game next week."
